Coastal Homes and Sunrooms (CHS) is a trustworthy builder. We highly recommend Wendell Varnes and his team unconditionally. He listened closely to what we wanted and worked within our budget. Our expectation was to enjoy our sunroom viewing the lagoon and woods behind our house populated with wildlife: eagles, aquatic birds, deers and alligators.
Wendell and his team communicated effectively throughout each step of the building process. CHS worked with us to resolve unexpected construction challenges. The crew showed up as scheduled, answered our questions in a timely manner and cleaned up.
The final product speaks for itself. We are extremely pleased with our year-round sunroom.

We are so happy with our screened room. Wendell had the vision for it and we absolutely love it. When we set out to add a screened room to our house we weren’t sure how we were going to do it. Wendell looked at our house and came up with a great plan. Working with the team throughout the process was a pleasure. The customer service and communication is excellent. We have had the great pleasure of working with Mr. Wendell Varnes of Coastal Homes and Sunrooms as he and his team built our home in Willow Point in 2020.  From the beginning, Mr. Varnes’ professionalism was evident as he met with all involved in the process of building our home to review and finalize all plans. He was instrumental in making sure all requirements and guidelines were met with both the Town of Port Royal and our community’s architectural review board.  He made sure to submit all plans and specifications to the board in a timely manner and answered any questions they may have promptly.

“In the Spring of 2013, we started with plans for a new sunroom on our home. Wendell walked us through the process, design and assisted in obtaining the proper permits and Sun City approvals.

We quickly expanded the scope of work by adding the replacement of all windows with impact resistant windows, added installation of spray foam in the attic, replacing the entire roof, replacing all gutters and downspouts and changing the exterior paint color.

When in the midst of construction, a violent thunderstorm caused damage to the ceiling in the existing part of the house, we added removing (scraping) existing popcorn ceilings and repainting. Each change brought new challenges to Wendell and his team, but each challenge was more than met.

In the aftermath of construction, a couple of the windows failed (air leaks) and Wendell promptly replaced them. One section of new gutter was deemed inadequate for water runoff and Wendell quickly had additional downspouts installed. We have been very satisfied with the quality of work and the professional work ethic of all staff.”

Al and Sallie Thompson have had several additions and remodeling projects completed to their home by Coastal Homes and Sunrooms.

“I was a customer for Southeast Homes (Wendell Varnes). Mr. Varnes was referred to us through Nationwide Homes. The project was a 3/2 coastal, 2 story-2,100 square foot home built on piers. We were building a part time home in South Carolina but our home state is Georgia. We were nervous about the process since we were out of state and not readily available to be on site. Mr. Varnes made this process very smooth and he was easy to work with. He would always interject his ideas and suggestions throughout the process. We only had to meet a couple of times throughout the entire process. We handled communication via the phone and/or email. The home turned out beautifully and more importantly well built. The home was built to code and all permits and inspections were done with no issues. There were some “punch list” items as you will have on any new construction and those items were taken care of timely. Mr. Varnes has good solid employees/contractors that he uses for various stages such as plumbing, sheet rock, paint, electrical, roofing….etc. I personally met many of the subs at the job site and was very comfortable with them and their work. Mr. Varnes still has a key to my home, even though it is done for some afterthought items I wanted to get done. I have full trust and confidence in him. We were extremely impressed with the CHS Web site. I was especially impressed with the covered topics especially the “Talk of the Town” segment. Most company’s don’t explain the critical issues surrounding the use of contractors and the various importance of insurances, bonding, licenses, inspections, etc. These are really critical questions which need to be answered regarding any home improvement project. Just a note to thank you for a great power wash and window cleaning. Special thanks for following up on repairing some minor paint damage to the porch roof. I hired CHS to do a couple of home remodel projects around 2012 and 2013. They were very professional and did excellent quality work for me. I was so pleased that when I decided to build a new house I hired CHS again and they did a tremendous job for me again! My wife & I would highly recommend Wendell and his crew to do any work on your home, from stick build to any type of remodeling. We did a gut and remodel and Wendell was with us every step of the way. He has good ideas and insight into how things will work together but also listens to your ideas and puts them first.
